I spotted her again
down on the beach
a huge rump, bending down
picking up shells
slowly
and for a moment she became
the soft brown fur
the haunches of a more than large
dog – it could be a bear –
scavenging idly
and as I looked again
she turned into a tree –
trunk and knot-tied
flaring her innards
wizened by the sea
inviting me to stare
