when the earth quakes
would we feel the build up
the way we feel a contraction
or a holding of energy
would our nervous system,
our psyche
our spirit
alert us to the earth’s pressure
would we hear the cicadas stop
their singing? would we notice
the restless dog
or the reluctant child
to go down for a nap?
would we see the sensitive
among us
acting strangely?
would there be any clues
any cues
would we notice them
even if there were?
would the trees tell us? the river?
the birds? And at night, would
the ocean, the wind share the secret?
